::  What is the objective of the ASMC and why does it exist?
  • The Association was established as a collective body to look after and represent the collective interests of sales and merchandising companies in our industry.
• This Association is a consultative forum, which will meets on a regular basis to address common industry issues.
• The Association’s objective is to promote the interests of the industry rather than the individual members, to ensure relations with other stakeholders within the industry are advanced and strengthened. An additional objective is to create common minimum standards among the members.
• Membership is through unity of thought and purpose, as well as the common business of its members.

::  What does membership entail and how does it work?
  • The members of the Association elect a management committee and the chairman and vice-chairman at every annual general meeting. Responsibilities are delegated and accountability assumed by the elected office bearers.
• Financial contributions are required to fund projects, communications and meetings of the members. The expressed intention is that they are kept to the minimum. The accounts are presented to the members annually.
• The annual contribution is depends on whether the service provider is operating in one region or in multiple regions.
• Membership is open to all Sales and Merchandising Companies that operate within the Republic of South Africa. The core function of these companies should to be the sales and merchandising of consumer goods.
• The constitution of the Association can be amended at any time by resolution of its members.
• While it is accepted that there are different standards currently, the ultimate goal is that the membership will only be allowed to those companies who comply with the minimum standards set by the Association.
• The regulating of the Association is through the duly appointed executive committee.
• The Association aims to represent and advocate the interests of the member companies, to the representatives of stakeholders that impact our industry such as the CGCSA, SETA, Department of Labour and Revenue Services, etc.

  • Provide leadership within our industry and to the members.
• Promote the value, role and capabilities of the members.
• Advocate member’s business interests with all stakeholders.
• Promote ethical and professional practices.
• Establish minimum standards for all members to adhere to.
• Communicate the issues which effect or challenge the industry as a whole.
• Award accreditation to those organizations which adhere to the minimum standards of the Association.

::  By what code of ethics does the ASMC operate?
  Honesty and Integrity
Members should loyally and faithfully serve their clients and always deal fairly with their clients and customers. No member should engage in any inconsistent or irreconcilable activity, or knowingly permit any transaction to occur through their offices, which is not fair to clients and customers alike.

Competition
The use by a member of any unfair or deceptive methods or tactics in competition with another member, whether for their clients or for their clients’ customers, is unworthy of membership of the association.

Confidentiality
Since the agent possesses confidential information concerning its clients, faithful service to these clients and reliable guidance to the client’s customer cannot be guaranteed if actions and opinions are tainted by breaches of confidentiality.

Compliance
Members should cooperate with all prevailing legislation in every proper way.
